La Chelle Gopaul

“From the very first visit, they have been thorough, attentive, and genuinely caring. They take the time to listen to my concerns, explain things in clear and understandable language, and never make me feel rushed.”

Why Sutton Place Residents Choose MR Primary Care

Sutton Place is one of Manhattan's quietest residential pockets, a few blocks of prewar co-ops and townhouses tucked between First Avenue and the East River. Its residents tend to stay put, and they want a primary care practice they can stay with too: a doctor who knows their history and is an easy walk away.

We're built around that kind of long-term care rather than one-off visits. The same team tracks your history, keeps your annual physicals, blood work, and prescriptions in one place, and coordinates specialist referrals when you need them.

What matters most for long-term care is seeing the same faces. Dr. Xequiel Hernandez, MD is a board-certified family medicine physician focused on preventive screening and managing chronic conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol over time. Ester Shavalian, PA works alongside him on preventive care and musculoskeletal concerns, and Pamela Cameau, PA-C covers women's health and adult primary care. All three are currently accepting new Sutton Place patients, and you can read their full backgrounds on our primary care doctors page.

“I'm trying to teach patients as we go, so that you don't need me as much and you're able to take care of it.”

Dr. Xequiel Hernandez, MD, who has practiced in New York since 2012

For women, our weekly Women's Health Wednesdays block at the Midtown office is a good fit for perimenopause and menopause care, hormone questions, and routine screening, all close to home.

Explore Sutton Place

Sutton Place runs along the East 50s east of First Avenue to the river, a compact and largely residential enclave just southeast of our office. A few things worth knowing if you're nearby for a visit:

Sutton Place Park. Two small riverside parks at the ends of 57th and 58th Streets, with benches, a view of the Queensboro Bridge, and a quiet stretch of the East River esplanade.

Riverview Terrace. A short private street of townhouses off Sutton Square, one of only a handful of private streets left in Manhattan.

Sutton Place proper. A tree-lined run of prewar co-ops between 53rd and 59th Streets east of First Avenue, calm even by east side standards.

Several pharmacies sit along First and Second Avenues for same-day prescription fills.
